Readers Advisory for Arabic Books

As part of the online course LIBR 545: Adults Popular Reading, I developed Reading Advisory (RA) descriptions for six Arabic titles including fiction and non-fiction works. I attempted to include a wide array of genres and to step out of my reading comfort zone to read and develop a RA description for titles of book genres that I would normally avoid based on personal preference. This article includes a reflection of the process of walking through this assignment.

The Karagöz and Hacivat puppets: A Teachers Resource Guide

The terms project in the ANTH 518 course (Museum Method) involved the construction of a Teachers Resource Guide (TRG) the Karagöz and Hacivat puppet collection which were on display as part of the Shadows, Strings and Other Things exhibition hosted by the Museum of Anthropology (MOA). The guide's intended purpose is to provide teachers at school and parents at home with the opportunity and resources necessary to explore the traditional Turkish shadow puppet theatre of Karagöz and Hacivat.

Visualizing COVID-19-related Data

Through this infoVis project, my colleague, Hannah Tanna and myself (Eiman Elnoshokaty) have developed multiple visualization options of both socio-economic and health-related data from multiple sources in an attempt to explore possible relationships between the levels of fatalities attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic in a selection of world countries and the health sector infrastructure during the 10 years preceding the pandemic outbreak.

Library Catalogue: Video Tutorial

A group of 4 classmates, including myself, designed a video tutorial for the Out on the Shelves library catalogue. We were lucky to have on of the library volunteers among our group members working on this project. Through this project, we made use of different technologies and tools to create an effective tutorial that teaches efficient use and searching the library catalogue.

Mock Information Literacy Session

This lesson plan is designed for an imaginary 45 minutes information literacy class for a group of 18 freshmen enrolled in an undergraduate forestry class at UBC. Through this class, I aim at introducing exploring the library resources using Summon search tool. For this class I designed a lesson plan, developed the actual instruction materials (PowerPoint presentation and student worksheet), and delivered a mock session for classmates.

Dabbling with a Medieval Arabic Manuscript

This manuscript analysis and assessment was the first assignment of the LIBR 548 (History of the Book) course. Through this assignment, I investigate the digitized copy of a medieval Arabic manuscript book (codex) of the Princeton University library collection. I observe and investigate the physicality of codex with respect to the historic and cultural contexts of its production and use, and lastly, contemplate on how the book design relates to readers and intended use.

Seminar on Censorship

I have worked on designing a seminar for a group of 4 people as part of LIBR 508 course work (Information Practices in Contemporary Society). The seminar's main objective is to summarize and critically approach readings on the subject of censorship in libraries and internet filtering.

Reference Interview: An Intermediary Reflection

This essay is based on a recent assignment for the LIBR 506 course (Human Information Interaction). The essay is a reflection on an in-class assignment to conduct a reference interview and perform three full searches based on three different reference inquiries.
